WCNA 1996- Second World Congress of Nonlinear Analysts

The Second World Congress of Nonlinear Analysts was held in Athens, Greece during July 10-17, 1996.

The interest in mathematical analysis of nonlinear (nonlinear meaning "not necessarily, linear") phenomena has led to increased interdependency and cooperation among scientists across traditional disciplinary barriers, and this collaboration has proved to be rewarding and stimulating. Also, industrial recognition of using nonlinear mathematical models for solving problems of technology is increasing becausee of the fast development of large-scale computers. Therefore, it is clear that the attempt to understand the nonlinear world will dominate large parts of mathematics in most areas of science and technology in future years.

Thus, there is a definite need to have a forum, on a global basis, to forge unity in diversity and for bringing more cooperation and collaboration into the world community of nonlinear analysts. It is with this spirit, the International Federation of Nonlinear Analysts was established in 1992, which is a transdisciplinary world society. It promotes, encourages, and sustains interest in the theory and application of nonlinear analysis and sponsors the World Congress of Nonlinear Analysts periodically -- once in four years.

Scientific Program

There will be several invited expository addresses covering recent trends and many invited lectures in nonlinear problems (by academic, industrial, and government experts) along with several organized sessions arising in such diverse disciplines as:

  • Aerospace Sciences
  • Atmospheric Sciences
  • Biological Sciences
  • Chemical Sciences
  • Cosmological Sciences
  • Economics Engineering
  • Technological Sciences
  • Environmental Sciences
  • Geophysical Sciences
  • Mathematical Sciences
  • Medical and Health Sciences
  • Numerical and Computational Sciences
  • Oceanographic Sciences
  • Physical Sciences
  • Social Sciences

There will be opportunity to present short communications, organize informal seminars, and propose special sessions. All invited lectures will be published in the proceedings of WCNA-96. More details, concerning travel facilities, social events, preregistration, accommodations, submission of abstracts, scientific progra m, and invited lectures will be provided as they become available through this site.

Other important activies planned include round-table meetings concerning problems of worldwide consequence such as:

  • Complex Environmental Problems
  • Global Warming
  • Ecological and Health Strategies
  • International Economic Models
  • Product Quality and Reliability
  • Spread of Disease
  • Next Generation Computers and their role

Expected to be invited are key persons from NATO, UNESCO, the United Nations, the European Economic Council, and other organizations.

Location of the Congress

The Second World Congress will be held in the Philosophy Building at the University of Athens, Greece. This building is modern, air-conditioned, spacious with several floors and includes a large restaurant downstairs. There are more than ample rooms available to accommodate such a large Congress.

Athens, the eye of Greece, mother of arts and eloquence native to famous wits. Athens offers the opportunity of combining the pleasure of a relaxing trip and the emotion of meeting ancient Greece. The marvelous museums, rich of incomparable witnesses of its history, the magnificence and beauty of its landscape justify a trip to Greece.

A mythical atmosphere surrounds the Acropolis, in the center of Athens with its impressive and outstanding Parthenon. Around this harmonious architectural complex lies an entire town of modern houses and buildings combined to antiquity. Thus an appropriate location to hold the Second World Congress of Nonlinear Analysts which strives to promote unity in diversity and for bringing more cooperation and collaboration into the world community of nonlinear analysts.
